Housing Testimonials

Words From Our Residents...

"When I was looking for a home to purchase in 2013, it was nearly impossible to find a home I could afford, while still being able to pay the rest of my bills and put food on the table for my son and I. Homeward Bound has enabled me to purchase my first home and build equity. My house was financed through USDA Rural Development and took about 11 months to finance due to a job-loss during the process. Even though I was down to one job and half the income, I was still able to afford to buy this house because they made it possible. The program provides special financing which includes a subsidy that is interest-free and renewed every 2 years, so instead of a regular 30-year loan, it becomes a 38-year loan, reducing the monthly payments. Although I do not receive the subsidy anymore, owning a Homeward Bound home is still more affordable than renting because I don't own the land so I don't have to pay for the land, just a small lease fee, and the land will be forever preserved to provide affordable housing to low-income families when I choose to sell the house. My house in particular was originally built in 1970 in Sequim and moved to Port Angeles in 2008 where they built a first story underneath. So, one of the other great things about Homeward Bound is that they typically used second-hand buildings, which saves homeowners even more money!" -Regan, Homeowner
